The Thuti Washed station is located in the Nyeri coffee region, specifically in the Othaya coffee district.
The Producers of the region deliver here their Coffee cherries that have been cultivated in volcanic soils at an altitude of more than 1,700 meters above sea level, approximately 193 hectares in total.
The fertile soils of the Othaya district are ideal for the cultivation of high quality coffee. Coffee trees of the Ruiru 11, SL 28 and SL 34 varietals are grown on these lands.
The Thuti Washed Station began operating in 1958, along with other Washed stations in the region, and is part of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative.
The stations and the Cooperative belong to the Coffee Producers of the region who deliver the harvest of their cherries to be processed.
The Producers of this Cooperative receive support in inputs, agricultural training and aid for the commercialization of their coffees.
Once the lots are processed, they are threshed in the mill owned by the cooperative.
The person in charge of this Washed station is James Nderitu Gathua, together with him and the team that works in the Thuti Washed station, we develop the batches with different processes, among them the Traditional Washed, once the batches are processed they are threshed in the mill owned by the cooperative.
